Cette norme européenne, appelée cadre européen commun de référence, est acceptée et reconnue dans tous les pays de l'Union Européenne. Elle détermine précisément les compétences que doit posséder l'apprenant pour communiquer dans certains contextes.
Children who use mobile phones for text messaging, and who often play with gaming consoles, use their thumbs and fingers a lot more than others do. As a result, their fingers and thumbs are becoming more muscled and stronger. The children can do things with them that most people can't.
Researchers have noticed that many teenagers use their thumbs instead of their fingers for many simple tasks such as pointing, or ringing doorbells. They are also much better at using keyboards than most other people. They can use their thumbs and fingers very quickly, sometimes without even looking at what they are doing. In Japan, the changing habits have become very noticeable and people are calling these teenagers the 'thumb generation'.
